Wine Tasting in Terra Bella--Summer Journeys

                                                                                                                             At Bella LaVina

Wonderful Wines and Traditions in Terra Bella, CA.!

My friends Robbin, Susan and I recently enjoyed a warm Saturday in the agriculture- rich Central Valley in Terra Bella, California.  We met three wine producing families and sampled some country wines at their wineries.  Terra Bella has three new wineries that's starting a trend in the Central Valley.   They're all known for their  hand-crafted boutique wines that are often featured in many valley restaurants.

Did you know that 90% of all US wine exported comes from California?  It ranks first in wine consumption in the USA and the fourth largest (regional) producers of wine in the world.  Although the Central Valley produces 71% of all grapes consumed in California, little is known about this beautiful land (Terra Bella) wineries.  Terra Bella is located 35 minutes North of Bakersfield on Highway 65.

Las Flores Winery

Robbin and Susan (right) and I chat with super owners,  Cody and Nicholas Flores,  who got the bug to attend UC Davis and learn how to make wine.  Wine making has been a tradition in the Flores family.  His parents own the winery down the street.   Las Flores offers some delicate chocolates to accompany the sweet dessert wines.  You must try the fruity sparkling wines (raspberry was my fav)  to sparkle up the taste buds.

All in the family:  Nicholas' parents Victor and Cari Flores, own the winery nearby:

 Bella La Vina Winery

Bella LaVina features many local crafts, sweets, fruits, nuts and crafts.

La Belle Winery

La Belle, is in a gorgeous setting among rows of navel orange trees.  Their young vineyards are not yet producing but they're using valley grapes that make wonderful wines.   Ask about their 871 Club.
