Rick Steves offered a great PBS special highlighting some of country Christmas customs in Europe.  I especially liked his Paris, Switzerland, Italy and Austria features...

Paris Eiffel Tower, Chocolate Candy Shop, Ice Skating under the Tower and a Department store decorated window for the children...



Chestnut vendor and dining out with seasonal fresh oysters and seafood very popular during the holiday season..




Brioche and cafe chatter always popular in Paris...



Switzerland...beautiful snow for sledding and enjoying cheese fondue over a wood fire.





In the Tuscany region of Italy, it's all about giving and sharing meals with neighbors and friends, according to Steves....a family taking a food basket to a neighbor.







Christmas in one of the  holiest of cities, Rome...Nativity scene re-enacted and the Vatican nativity scene.

Festivities include breaking bread together in Rome...local buyers purchase delicious fresh ingredients for their festive meals.

Sophia Loren, one of the most beautiful and talented Italian actors, was promised and received the most lavish villa in Rome from her husband, Carlo Ponti.  This sprawling estate may be seen on Daily Mail See  here ... They had more than one home...this one below is in Capri taken when I visited in 2012.  It's located on the opposite side of the island where the Marina Piccola (small marina) is located.  Truly wonderful location for a wonderful star...see my Capri here

Anjelica Huston's Three Rivers Ranch

Anjelica Huston is a beautiful woman who has a  simple yet  colorful, expressive ranch house  in Three Rivers, CA .  I'm featuring it because it's very near my home town.   She's one of my favorite actresses with so many credits to her name.  Most are not familiar with  "Family Pictures",  a two-part TV adaptation of the Sue Miller novel of the same name. Anjelica and Sam Neill are a 1950s married couple with six children, one of whom, Randall, is autistic . The parents' initial decision not to institutionalize the boy results in a terrific strain on the rest of the family.                         She also played an Italian in "Prizzi's Honor" directed by her father.     Vogue Italia  recognized Angelica's 60th birthday recently by displaying many of the above photos.  She is pictured with Jack Nicholson, her longtime friend.  At her ranch house at left.   A look at her Ranch House. ..continue...
